🏠 How to Use Your Electric Wall Heaters

As the colder months approach, we often receive more reports about heater issues. Many of these turn out to be related to the Timeguard 24-hour Mechanical Time Switch not being set correctly - rather than a fault with the wall heaters themselves.

To help you stay warm and avoid unnecessary call-outs, here’s a simple guide on how to use your electric wall heater timer correctly.

🔌 What the Time Switch Does

The Timeguard NTT01 controls your electric wall heaters and helps you manage your heating schedule efficiently.

It allows you to automatically turn your heaters on and off throughout the day, saving energy and keeping your home comfortable.

You’ll find the timer panel in your utility room.

⏰ How the Timer Works

  • The dial on the timer represents a 24-hour clock.
  • Around the edge of the dial are small tappets (pins) — each one represents a 15-minute interval.
  • When a tappet is pushed down, the heater will turn on for that period.
  • When a tappet is left up, the heater will remain off.

⚙️ Setting Up Your Heating Schedule

  1. Switch on your heater — make sure it’s turned on both at the wall socket and on the heater unit itself.
  2. Set the correct time by turning the dial clockwise until the current time lines up with the small arrow on the timer face.
  3. Select your heating times by pushing down the tappets for the times you want heat (for example, 7:00–9:00 am and 6:00–10:00 pm).
  4. Leave all other tappets up to keep the heater off during those times.
  5. On the side of the unit, slide the switch to “Timer” so your chosen schedule operates automatically.

💡 If you want your heater to stay on continuously, slide the switch to “Constant.”

🔍 Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Forgetting to set the timer to “Timer” mode - your schedule won’t run if it’s set to “Constant.”
  • Not aligning the current time correctly on the dial.
  • Assuming the heater is faulty when it’s just not scheduled to run.

💰 Important Note

If a contractor attends and finds that your heater is working correctly but simply hasn’t been set or switched on properly, the cost of the call-out may be charged to you.

🌬️ Heating & Ventilation: Preventing Mould and Mildew

Keeping your home warm and well-ventilated is essential to prevent condensation, damp, and mould - especially during colder months.

Here are a few quick tips:

  • Heat your home regularly – maintain a steady, comfortable temperature throughout all rooms. Avoid leaving spaces unheated.
  • Ventilate daily – open windows or trickle vents for at least 20–30 minutes each morning to refresh the air.
  • Use extractor fans – always switch them on when cooking or showering to remove steam and excess moisture.
  • Avoid drying clothes on radiators – instead, use a drying rack in a well-ventilated room.

💡 Consistent heating and airflow help prevent condensation build-up on windows and walls, keeping your home dry and healthy.
